Lucy's Law

The ban on third party sales of puppies and kittens came into force on 6 April 2020 and the legislation that has effected this changed is named after a puppy farm rescued dog named Lucy. This new law bans third party sales of all puppies and kittens. From this date, anyone wishing to purchase a puppy or kitten under the age of 6 months will only be able to do so if they buy direct from the breeder or go through an official rescue centre. Licensed dog breeders must show the puppies interacting with their mum in their place of birth. It is hoped that this law will put an end to puppy farming and the awful conditions in which these animals live and the severe health conditions they suffer as a consequence.
