Salary      – £25,979 - £27,803 (Grade 4)

Hours      – 37 hours – office based, on-site, hybrid working

The role

We are currently looking to appoint a Housing Renewal Assistant.  The role will involve assisting with the delivery of our Housing Assistance Policy, including the provision of Disabled Facilities Grants and Home Improvement Agency Grants, working with clients living in either social or private housing sectors within the Borough.

Qualifications

Educated to Level 3 or equivalent.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To assist with and carry out technical inspections
  • Support the work of the Housing Renewal Service to ensure the highest possible customer service and that adaptation works are delivered in a timely manner, represent the best possible value for money and meet performance targets
  • Assist in the reporting on performance and customer satisfaction levels across the Housing Service
  • To have a thorough knowledge of the Council’s Housing Assistance Policy, its objectives, the products and assistance available and to be able to advise accordingly
  • Understand the legal framework and requirements of the Disabled Facilities Grant process and be able to advise customers accordingly
  • Scrutinise plans and evaluate estimates / tenders submitted for housing financial assistance and adaptations in accordance with Contract Rules and Departmental Policies
  • Use problem solving skills to ascertain a resolution when faced with unfeasible adaptations
  • Consultation with customer/Occupational Therapist, to carry out all preparatory work as necessary to support adaptations for disabled people/property improvements, including property inspection, technical scheme drawings, work specifications and preparation of tenders
  • Officiate the input and extraction of relevant data from the sections Case Management database in support of the Housing Assistance Policy and adaptation service in order to manage workloads in accordance with service level standards
  • Agree variations to work specifications with contractors and customers in accordance with Departmental policy and internal audit requirements

Person Specification

  •  Experience of working in / within the Construction Industry would be an advantage
  •  Excellent skills in customer care
  •  Good communication skills, both orally and written
  • Excellent administration skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work on own initiative and make decisions within pre-determined guidelines
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a Team and to meet the needs of the organisation
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to communicate confidently with people of all levels, providing support and developing co-operative working relationships
  • Cares about clients and shows empathy when dealing with elderly and vulnerable members of the public
  • Willingness to undertake appropriate training as necessary
  • Excellent IT skills with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability and willingness to demonstrate the council’s values and behaviours
  • Full current driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
