Rossendale Works, an employability partnership between Rossendale Borough Council (RBC), Active Lancashire and Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), is holding an employment and support event.
The event, which runs from 1pm-3pm, is open to anyone looking for work or who may need support to move into work. The event is free to attend and open to people of all ages.
The Rossendale Works project, which provides tailored employment support, job fairs and free pre-employment training courses, has in the last 12 months found employment or training courses for more than 200 Rossendale people. Businesses, organisations and training providers based in Rossendale will be at the event offering help and advice to those looking for employment or further training on jobs and courses that are available.
Paul Becouarn, Rossendale Works Project Lead, said: “The job fair will be host to an impressive line-up of local recruiters including We Buy Books, Rossendale Police and Rossendale Holiday Cottages and Glamping all providing an opportunity for job seekers to find out more about the vacancies they have available.
“It gives you a chance to showcase your skills, personality, and passion in person to decision-makers who are eager to find talent. A meeting in person leaves a lasting impression that no online application can match.
“In addition, our team will be available to talk to you about our free ongoing mentoring and support, which can boost your experience and confidence to help you in your search for work.”
The HARRI Bus will be joining the fair in the council’s car park. Onboard there will be a mixed group from within the NHS and other organisations, which will offer a wide range of information on a variety of other issues including job advice, quitting smoking, diabetic DESMOND, Steady On, Myplace, Lancashire Victim Support and more. The vehicle also includes a private consulting area with disabled access.
The last job fair in January was the most successful the Rossendale Works team has ever held with a number of attendees finding employment through visiting the fair, with some being offered jobs on the spot.
Council Leader Alyson Barnes said: “It’s such a simple idea to bring local businesses and training providers together in the same room with those seeing employment but it really works, and they have been a great success. The increasing numbers of attendees and business we get each time along with the number people finding work is testament to that.”
