Hello Rossendale! It’s time for a monthly update on the activities and events that our Mayor, Councillor Andrew Walmsley, has been involved in throughout June. It has been a month full of community engagement, celebrations, and support for local organizations. Let’s dive right in!

Bacup Cultural Consortium Market Festival – 2nd June

Kicking off the month, the Mayor and Mayoress attended the Bacup Cultural Consortium Market Festival. The event was a vibrant day, featuring workshops, activities, and performances. Irwell Terrace came alive with circus skills, storytelling, games, and music. It was a fantastic opportunity for residents to immerse themselves in the rich culture of Bacup.


Mayor of Whitworth Civic Sunday – 4th June

The Mayor of Rossendale paid a visit to St Bartholomew’s Church to take part in a service to celebrate Councillor Mike Royds installation as Mayor of Whitworth for the Municipal Year 2023/2024.


Rossendale Players Production – 11th June
 
Our Mayor and Mayoress spent an enjoyable Sunday evening attending the Rossendale Players’ production of ‘The Beginner’s Guide to Murdering Your Husband’ at the New Millennium Theatre. This fundraising night was dedicated to supporting the Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary.

Pride of Rossendale Awards – 16th June

Recognizing outstanding individuals and groups within our community, the Mayor and Mayoress attended the Pride of Rossendale Awards ceremony which was held at The Ashcroft in Whitworth. Awards were offered in various categories, including Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Young Person of the Year, and Community Group of the Year. It was a wonderful celebration of the remarkable contributions made by the people of Rossendale.


Armed Forces Flag Raising – 19th June

In honour of our courageous veterans and current servicemen and women, the Mayor attended the Armed Forces Flag Raising ceremony at St Mary’s Garden in Rawtenstall. The service, led by Reverend Samuel Hameem, was a solemn and heartfelt tribute. The event was attended by local dignitaries, including the Mayor of Whitworth, Deputy Lieutenant Louise Cooper BEM, and representatives from various organizations.


Bacup Family Centre AGM – 19th June

The Mayor’s chosen charity, Bacup Family Centre, held its Annual General Meeting (AGM). This remarkable organization has been providing support to the local community for over 32 years. The AGM served as a platform to reflect on the achievements, challenges, and future plans of the charity. It was an inspiring gathering that highlighted the crucial work carried out by Bacup Family Centre.


Bacup & Stacksteads Carnival Parade – 25th June

Bringing the month to a vibrant close, the Mayor participated in the Bacup & Stacksteads Carnival Parade. With a lively pirate theme, the parade winded its way from Broadclough Mill into the town centre, spreading joy and excitement. Moorlands Park was transformed into a hub of festivities, featuring stalls, funfair rides, inflatables, and a thrilling football challenge. The Mayor officially opened the parade and awarded prizes to the two best entries.


Reflecting on the month, the Mayor, Councillor Andrew Walmsley, expressed:
“June has been an excellent, fun filled start to my Mayoral term. We have attended many local events that have really showcased the talent, dedication, and hard work the people of Rossendale have to offer.  

I look forward to the exciting months ahead, and I hope you enjoy being able to see what I have been up to each month.”
