Hello Rossendale! We’re back with another exciting update on the Mayor’s busy schedule for the month of July. From community celebrations to heartfelt gatherings.
Rossendale Relay for Life – 1st July
Kicking off the month with a noble cause, the Mayor and Mayoress attended the Rossendale Relay for Life event. This 24-hour relay was a testament to the community’s dedication to cancer research. The Mayor and Mayoress were honoured to open the event, setting the tone for a day of unity and support.
Garden Open Day – 1st July
Nature’s beauty took centre stage as the Mayor and Mayoress visited Dawn Taylor’s Garden in Whitewell Bottom. This annual event served a dual purpose: showcasing the stunning garden oasis and raising funds for the Rossendale Community First Responders. The garden, a labour of love cultivated over years, provided the perfect backdrop for the fund-raising event.
Bacup Royal Court Theatre – 1st July
The magic of theatre came alive as the Mayor and Mayoress attended a production of “The Railway Children” at the Bacup Royal Court Theatre. This was a special moment as some of the original child actors from 26 years ago returned as adults!
Rossendale Memory Choir 10th Celebration – 5th July
The Mayor and Mayoress joined in celebrating a decade of harmony and support at the Rossendale Memory Choir’s 10th Anniversary. With a spread of cream tea and a joyous singing session, this event highlighted the choir’s dedication to families affected by dementia and other memory challenges. It was a true celebration of resilience and togetherness.
Tor View Valley College Theatre Production – 5th July
Education and creativity converged as the Mayor and Mayoress attended a performance by the Face Me Theatre Company, presented by Tor View Valley College. This student-led drama focused on the nine Protected Characteristics, a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion and understanding.
Haslingden Community Link 25th Anniversary Celebration – 8th July
Celebrations were in full swing as the Mayor and Mayoress marked the 25th Anniversary of Haslingden Community Link. The event was a vibrant mix of stalls, a bouncy castle, indoor market, and much more. The Mayor and Mayoress had the honour of introducing the festivities, mingling with attendees, and soaking in the community spirit.
Whitewell Bottom Soup Social – 12th July
The Mayor and Mayoress joined the Whitewell Bottom Soup Social. This monthly gathering (2nd Wednesday of each month) brought people together for some delightful food, companionship, and a touch of excitement with a raffle draw.
Rainbows Awards Presentation – 13th July
The Mayor and Mayoress added a touch of pride and encouragement to the Rainbows Awards Presentation. Held at Trinity Baptist Church, the Mayor had the privilege of presenting special awards to Rainbows who completed their program, inspiring the next step of their journey.
Prohibition Bar & Eatery Opening – 13th July
The Mayor and Mayoress joined in celebrating the launch of the new Prohibition Bar & Eatery in Bacup. The event was a testament to the town’s vibrant local business scene and provided a platform for fostering connections among entrepreneurs and supporters.
Mayor’s Charity Strawberry Tea Garden Party – 15th July
The Mayor and Mayoress, along with their dedicated charity committee, hosted a delightful Strawberry Tea Garden Party hosted by Cllr Barbara Ashworth. This event was not only a treat for the taste buds but also a meaningful fundraiser, raising over £500 for a noble cause. Community members came together, enjoying the company, treats, and shared commitment to giving back.
Clitheroe Last Night of the Proms Concert – 22nd July
A musical interlude took the Mayor and Mayoress to the Clitheroe Last Night of the Proms Concert. Held at the Clitheroe Bandstand in the iconic Clitheroe Castle, this event was a harmonious way to connect with neighbouring communities and enjoy a night of uplifting melodies.
Stubbylee Park Launch – 29th July
The Mayor and Mayoress formally launched the new tennis courts and skate park at Stubbylee Park. The sponsored walk, organized by the Stacksteads Countryside Park Group, exemplified the community’s dedication to recreational spaces and active lifestyles.
The Mayor, Cllr Andrew Walmsley, summed up the month by expressing his joy at being part of numerous inspiring events. “We attended lots of wonderful events this month and the details above are just some of the highlights. We met with a number of voluntary organisations and individuals this month, that have all been dedicating their time to raising funds for local causes or providing services for residents; it was truly inspiring to see.
In July we also held our first of many Mayor’s Charity Fundraising events, a strawberry tea garden party, raising over £500. I would like to thank my charity committee for all their help, and thank you to everybody that joined us. We have some more exciting events coming up too so keep an eye out for the details over the next few months.”
