Everyone at Rossendale Borough Council would like to pass on their condolences to the family and friends of past Mayor and former Councillor Trevor Unsworth.
Trevor served as a councillor for 9 years, and was a Labour member for Hareholme Ward, between 2002 – 2011
Trevor was also Mayor of Rossendale 2010/11 and served on a significant number of committees during his time as a councillor.
Alyson Barnes Council Leader said: “I’m greatly saddened to hear of the death of Trevor and my thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Trevor was a real local character, who was well liked by those who knew him. Like many of his generation Trevor left school at fifteen, working for the Co-op for many years. Late in life he obtained a sociology degree despite having very poor eyesight – he was delighted with this achievement.”
ClIr Alan Neal, Community First councillor for Healey & Whitworth Ward said: “I first met Trevor in the 1990s when he was the manager of the Whitworth Co-op. He used to travel everywhere on public transport from his home in Staghills down to Whitworth on a daily basis. He was a lovely man and a wonderful ambassador for both his community and Rossendale Council.
The council will be putting the flag in St Mary’s Gardens, Rawtenstall at half-mast as a sign of respect until the day of the funeral and will also observe a silence at the next Council meeting.
