Hello, Rossendale residents! It’s time to catch up on the Mayor’s busy schedule over August as he continues to engage with our vibrant community.

 Civic Pride Britain in Bloom Picnic – August 3rd
August began with a delightful picnic celebration at Whitaker Park. This event followed the judging of the RHS Britain in Bloom National Competition. Rossendale’s own Civic Pride was selected to represent the entire Northwest of England in this prestigious Royal Horticultural Society competition. A true honour for our community!

Meeting RHS Judge & Tour of Bacup – August 5th
In preparation for the RHS Britain in Bloom Competition, the Mayor and Mayoress had the privilege of meeting an RHS judge and providing a tour of Bacup. This offered a wonderful opportunity to showcase the town’s dedication to horticulture and community beautification. 

Summer Fayre & Jumble Sale – August 12th
August 12th saw the Mayor and Mayoress supporting one of his chosen charities, Bacup Family Centre. Held at Christ Church with St John, Bacup, the Summer Fayre & Jumble Sale was a day filled with games, activities, face painting, and a variety of items up for grabs. The event not only raised funds but also brought the community closer together.

Bacup Fire Station Family Open Day – August 12th
Keeping the spirit of community alive, the Mayor attended the Bacup Fire Station Family Open Day. This annual event allowed residents to meet their local firefighters, witness live demonstrations, and gain insight into the skills and equipment that keep our community safe. 

Crowther Opticians 60th Anniversary – August 15th
Celebrating local businesses is essential, and the Mayor and Mayoress joined in marking Crowther Opticians’ 60th Anniversary. This Bacup-based establishment commemorated six decades of service with a special event that included a raffle, raising money for Bacup Pride and Bacup Family Centre.

Coffee Morning Fundraiser – August 19th
August 19th saw Deputy Mayor Cllr Judith Driver organising a heart-warming Coffee Morning fundraiser. The event aimed to raise funds for the Mayor’s Charity Fund and Macmillan. Attendees were treated to a delightful spread of refreshments, including mouth-watering cakes, while raising over £200. 

Fundraiser at the IDL Club – August 20th
The IDL Club in Haslingden hosted a fundraiser on August 20th. Organised by the club and Cllr Ann Kenyon, the event aimed to support the Mayor’s Charity Fund. Attendees enjoyed the talented Kadie Jo Green’s performance and participated in a lively raffle. 

Ukrainian Independence Day Service – August 24th
On August 24th, the Mayor and Mayoress attended a Ukrainian Independence Day Service at St. Mary’s Church. This event brought together Ukraine guests to commemorate Independence Day and express gratitude to those still supporting Ukraine. A heartfelt service was followed by a meal prepared by our Ukrainian guests. 

Garden Open Weekend – August 26th
Karen Clough opened her garden to the public as part of the National Garden Charity Scheme on August 26th. Nestled in Rossendale farmland, her garden featured meandering streams, mixed borders, shrubs, perennials, and water-loving plants. It was a splendid opportunity for residents to appreciate the beauty of nature. 

Civic Pride Annual Tea Party – August 28th
August ended on a high note with the Civic Pride Annual Tea Party at Sparrow Park/Library Gardens in Rawtenstall. The event was a traditional tea party complete with light refreshments, entertainment, and children’s games—all organised and hosted by Civic Pride. 

  

As the month came to a close, the Mayor expressed his joy at being part of these diverse and engaging events. Rossendale continues to shine, thanks to the dedication and spirit of its residents. Stay tuned for more exciting updates as the Mayor’s journey through the community unfolds.
