Rossendale Council is undertaking a public consultation on the Climate Change Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). The document includes how new developments in Rossendale can best adapt to climate

The document includes how new developments in Rossendale can best adapt to climate change, focusing on sustainable and active transport, energy efficiency and renewables, water interventions, biodiversity and Green Infrastructure. Cllr Adrian Lythgoe, Portfolio Holder for Operations and Climate Change said: “Climate change is a significant issue that requires urgent action. As shown by the current heatwave, the global climate crisis will lead to more frequent and extreme weather events, including flooding, wildfires, extreme heat, and droughts.

“It is important that new developments are designed and built to mitigate emissions and be adaptable for the impacts of climate change, whilst at the same time support communities.”

The SPD provides additional guidance for developers in preparing planning applications and supports the policies in Rossendale’s adopted Local Plan.

Consultation is taking place with all stakeholders, including residents, landowners, developers and statutory consultees.

The consultation closes on 24 August 2022 at 5pm.
