Cycling summit planned to help shape the future of active travel in Rossendale
Rossendale Borough Council is hosting a Cycling Summit at The Ashcroft in Whitworth on Tuesday February 27. People are being encouraged to register for the event, which is also support by Lancashire County Council, so they can share their views and help shape the plan for cycling and active travel in Rossendale.
The summit aims to foster discussions, share innovative ideas, and collaboratively create a comprehensive plan for promoting cycling in Rossendale. The focus of the summit, "greener, cleaner, and healthier," underscores the commitment to integrating cycling and active travel into the daily lives of the Rossendale community.
Councillor Andy MacNae said: "We are excited to bring together diverse perspectives and expertise to shape a cycling plan that aligns with our vision for a greener, cleaner, and healthier Rossendale. We want people to get involved and contribute to this initiative. Rossendale is already known in the cycling community as a great place to ride but we want to further elevate cycling in Rossendale.”
Cycling UK and British Cycling will also be attending the event. Their participation underscores the partnership and commitment by the council to the enhance and improve Rossendale and its vibrant cycling community.
The summit will feature a series of workshops, each addressing key aspects of cycling promotion:
1. Building Active Travel into Everyday Lives:
- Discussion on strategies to build and increase active travel in daily routines.
2. Marketing and Communications for Cycling Campaigns:
- Insights on effective communication and marketing strategies to engage a broader audience in cycling initiatives.
3. Infrastructure Matters:
- Exploration of cycling infrastructure both on and off-road, including connections between locations and the development of cycling facilities like pump tracks.
4. Cycling's Contribution to the Physical Activity Strategy:
- Understanding how cycling aligns with and contributes to the physical activity strategy for Rossendale.
5. Understanding Our Community:
- Examination of existing community elements and considerations for a cohesive cycling plan.
Councillor Andy MacNae added: “The summit's focus on infrastructure, community understanding, and active travel aligns perfectly with our mission for a healthier Rossendale and to make cycling accessible to all. The involvement of Cycling UK and British Cycling exemplifies a united commitment towards enhancing cycling in our community."
