The past two months have been full of community events which have kept our Mayor and her Consort busy.
Wednesday, 3rd July 2024 - Rossendale Memory Choir Cream Tea
Kay Street Baptist Church played host to a wonderful afternoon as the Rossendale Memory Choir celebrated Wimbledon with a cream tea. The Mayor and her Consort were warmly welcomed by Graham Sellens and Jane Barkess. The choir, which supports families living with dementia and other memory challenges, holds weekly singing sessions led by a trained facilitator. These sessions provide not only joy but also cognitive and emotional benefits through singing, dancing, and playing instruments.
Wednesday, 10th July 2024 - Dementia Friendly Rossendale Afternoon Tea
A week later, the Mayor and Consort attended their next event - the Dementia Friendly Rossendale Afternoon Tea at Marl Pits Rugby Club. The afternoon featured performances by a ukulele band and a singer, offering an enjoyable afternoon for residents living with dementia.
Sunday, 21st July 2024 - Royal British Legion Annual Church Service
The Mayor, accompanied by Cllr Danielle Ashworth, attended the Royal British Legion's Annual Church Service at St John the Baptist Church in Rochdale. The service honoured the contributions of veterans and their families, reminding the community of the ongoing importance of remembrance.
Saturday, 27th July 2024 - Tesco Haslingden Community Event
Later in July, the Mayor and her Consort participated in Tesco Haslingden’s Community Event. Local groups came together to engage with the public and showcase how Tesco supports their initiatives. It was a great opportunity for different community organisations to network and connect with locals.
Friday, 30th August 2024 - Golf Competition in Memory of Michael Davitt
Rossendale Golf Club hosted a golf competition in memory of Michael Davitt, with the Mayor attending to present the trophy. The event was a touching tribute, bringing together golfers for a meaningful cause and fostering community spirit.
Charity Fundraising Success
Throughout July and August, the Mayor also held a series of fundraising events to support her Mayor’s Charity Fund. Beneficiaries this year include Rossendale Hospice, Rossendale Responsible Animal Rescue, M3 Project, Whitehorse Project, and other local charities. The Mayor and her committee hosted three successful events: a charity meal at North Street Indian Restaurant, a BBQ garden party, and a coffee morning at the Mayor’s home. Each event was a great success, raising significant funds for these worthy causes.
