In 2019, The Whitaker Museum in Rawtenstall received a £1.7m grant through the National Lottery Heritage Fund to expand the museum. The adjacent barn and stables to the original museum building were transformed into a café and bar, and a functional space that can be hired for events and celebrations. The relocation of the café allowed the space the museum has to double, meaning they can showcase more artefacts from their extensive collection.
