High Street Heritage Action Zone
Project concluded in Spring 2024.
Following the success of the Bacup Townscape Heritage Initiative from 2014-2019, and the unfortunate consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, Bacup received a further £1.08m in grant funding to unlock the potential of the high street as well as to fuel social, economic and cultural recovery post-pandemic.
The five year High Street Heritage Action Zone project funded by Historic England ran until April 2024.
Rossendale Borough Council have used this funding to contribute towards the significant improvements to the grade II listed former Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank. They have also updated Hempsteads Memorial Garden, devised the Bacup Cultural Consortium, who will continue to deliver engaging, inclusive, fun and interactive activities, and made improvements to 13 buildings in the town centre.
