Net Zero Projects
Building decarbonisation project
In line with our building heat decarbonisation strategy we have put in place a number of interventions to reduce carbon footprint of our buildings including:
- Low energy LED lighting installed in our buildings including Henrietta Street (January 2023) and Futures Park (February 2023)
- Replacement of old boilers at Haslingden Sports Centre, Maiden Recreational Centre and Henrietta Street Depot Office in 2023
EV infrastructure project
We have recently completed the installation of 52 new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging sockets across multiple car parks in Rossendale. This was completed using funding from Department for Transport in collaboration with Connected Kerb and supported by Energy Saving Trust. As part of the Council’s commitment to a cleaner, greener Borough, the EV charge points became fully operational on 15th November 2024 to serve residents, EV drivers, and visitors.
The charge points are available in car parks in Haslingden, Waterfoot, Rawtenstall and Bacup - for more information on the new charging points, their locations, and how to use them, please visit:

Local Energy Advice Demonstrator programme (LEAD)
We are supporting Rossendale Valley Energy on the LEAD project which provides access to free energy and retrofit advice to residents in Rossendale. Information about this project can be found here: Rossendale Valley Energy (rvenergy.org.uk)
Net Zero Terrace Streets project
We are working with Rossendale Valley Energy as key partners on the Net Zero Terrace Streets project. The project, funded by Innovate UK, aims to create a replicable, scalable solution to decarbonising terraced housing - making homes healthier and warmer with affordable energy. If successful, the solution could be rolled out further across the Rossendale Valley. Information about this project can be found here: Terraced Streets - Rossendale Valley Energy (rvenergy.org.uk)
Rossendale Forest Initiative
The Rossendale Forest initiative commenced in 2022. As of November 2024, the initiative has planted 16,500 trees, exceeding its initial target of 16,000.
